What are the sinuses?

When dealing with sinus issues its important to understand were talking about the maxillary, sphenoid, ethmoid, and frontal paranasal sinuses.  Sinuses are air cavities in our skull that function to filter and moisture air we inhale.  The production of mucus is normal and vital for these sinuses.  The problem is when tissue continually gets irritated, producing too much mucus and the sinuses are not being drained.  This can possibly lead to:

Sinus Congestion

Sinus Headaches

Sinus Pressure

Sinusitis

Why do i keep getting reoccurring sinus issues?

It is usually due to the cranial bones being misaligned.  The cranial bones effect the tissue and the nerves in the sinuses.  If the cranial bones are  misaligned it can cause pressure on the sphenopalatine ganglion supplying all the nerves to the sinuses.  This decreases the nasal sinuses ability to function.  This means more irritation/mucus and less drainage.

If the nerves in the sinuses are working at 100% the irritation/mucus would be decreased and the mucus which is there would be properly draining through the lymphatics.

How can chiropractic help?

We specialize in understanding the mechanics of how the cranial bones function.  We find which cranial bones are not properly moving and help facilitate its normal motion.  This helps emphasize proper drainage and increase nerve function.  It is not uncommon after an adjustment to feel the sinuses start to drain and  release of pressure.
